The Mexican grey wolf is the most rare and smallest subspecies of the grey wolf. It was once exterminated from the wild, but after being listed under the Endangered Species Act in 1976 extreme measures were taken to prevent their extinction. As of 2017 there were 143 wolves living in the wild and 240 in captive breeding programs. This piece was made for the Bismarck Art and Galleries Associations annual square foot art show.
